At a rain-soaked Eton Manor RFC, both Chelmsford Youth teams’ shine, beating Brentwood RFC and Thurrock RFC in the no1 finals.

While every team plays a final game in the county waterfall cup competition, only the top 2 teams in each age group play each other at a neutral venue in the coveted no1 finals. This weekend saw Chelmsford U13s and U14s play the No1 finals and saw both teams come away as the only unbeaten teams in the county.

This year’s finals were held at Eton Manor RFC and uniquely for these age groups, the games were officiated by society referees.

The Chelmsford U13s, who were playing in their first final, dominated their game against Brentwood RFC from the start, rolling out 40-0 winners. The whole squad contributed to the journey through to the final and there was some great rugby played with multiple try scorers across the forwards and backs.

Chelmsford u14s, who were victorious in the Essex Cup last year, were playing Thurrock RFC and despite being held to just a 7-0 at half time, they found their rhythm in the second half and ran out 22-0 winners.

The second Chelmsford u14s team travelled to Westcliff RFC for their final cup game but lost 44-0, finishing a very impressive 4th place in the cup competition. The third u14s game, scheduled to be played against Billericay RFC and a second u13s game against Epping RFC had to be cancelled this week.

Having two teams compete for the top final in the Essex Youth Cup is a massive achievement for any club and we are all proud of the boys’ achievements. Big thank you to Eton Manor for hosting the finals this year and for all their hospitability.
