The 2nd XV started well showing great shape and commitment up the slope. An early try by Matt Jefferson saw the Blueboys take an early 5-0 lead. Some excellent 'chop' tackling and defensive work enabled the home side to maintain the lead as confidence through the side began to grow. Alex Hutchinson's pass at scum half was giving the backs running line a new dimension and James McLaughlan was starting to pull the strings. Ugo Eze went over from close range giving Chelmsford a half time lead. Chelmsford 2nd XV 12 Woodford 2nd XV 3.

A change at half time saw Charlie Walubita come on at loose head and Eze going into the second row. Woodford however were the next to score and all of a sudden the game was back on a knife edge. The Chelmsford bench is always strong, as Marc Pluck replaced Pete Baya and Marcus Boroup replaced George Moorcroft. If the Blueboys could widen a narrow Woodford defence another try was on the cards. With good patterns of play Pluck went over for try three and Mike Moss, soon off to Australia, scored a well deserved fourth. Chelmsford 2nd XV 26 Woodford 2nd XV 8.

The final score was Woodford's as a few knocks and injuries started to take there toll. A second home win in the first two weeks is a good start to the Essex Merit Table Division 1 campaign. Regular training and additional fitness will be the key to a successful year.
