The CRFC U12 Sharks are open to boys in school year 7 from September 2021. The aim of the U12s is to provide a safe and fun environment for your son/daughter to learn to play rugby. We welcome players of all abilities so (even if your child has never touched a rugby ball before) come down and give the game a go!
Due to the current COVID regulations, you must make contact with the coaching team to pre-register for a session.
This year our kids will develop their contact rugby skills (learning the basics of rucking, mauling and scrummaging) while continuing to focus on playing good evasive rugby.
For newcomers, the first three sessions are free, so you can check that rugby and the club is right for your son or daughter. After which you and your child can join Chelmsford RFC and we register them as a player with the RFU. On becoming a member of the club your child will be eligible to play in competitive matches. We play a number of fixtures against clubs in Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk throughout the season, all in accordance with the new Rules of Play developed by the RFU.
Both training sessions and competitive matches are on Sunday mornings and last for about an 1.5hrs. Parents/carers are requested to remain at the sessions with their children. We also regularly take part in events with the mighty Saracens and with our own 1st team. We play in all but the very worst weathers, so please make sure your child comes dressed to remain warm and dry through the session (they can always take layers off). Football / rugby boots are essential, especially when the ground starts to get slippery; as is a drinks bottle to ensure they stay hydrated. You should expect them to get good and muddy (they usually do!!).
