Having watched the u15s A side draw with Old Elthamians RFC in the first match, the B side took on Old Elthamians B in the second game of the afternoon.
Despite the blazing sun, the game got off to a fast start with both sides off-loading skilfully out of the tackle to create fast flowing attacking rugby. After creating the initial pressure through the forwards, a missed OE's tackle created the space for the initial Chelmsford try. The first half finished 0-5 to Chelmsford.
Chelmsford were again first on the scoresheet in the second half, this time with a bit of individual skill that saw the Chelmsford centre bounce off 5 tackles to score under the posts. Despite battering our line on numerous occasions, the Chelmsford defence withstood the onslaught and the game finished at 0-12.
As with the first game, the match was played in a great spirit and both sides showed great sportsmanship throughout. 44 Chelmsford u15s players travelled over the river for these matches (out of a squad of 60+ with 21 playing at least half of each fixture). The strength and depth of this squad is amazing and I am sure many will go on to become future Blueboys.
Next week sees the B side play their first Essex League match of the Season away to Rochford.
