U15s Match Report - Harlow RFC 12 Chelmsford RFC 25

With Brentwood withdrawing from the planned match due to a clash with a league fixture, the Chelmsford u15s made the journey to Harlow to play one of the few matches in the county to have survived the ongoing weather conditions.

Harlow started the match the stronger of the two sides and quickly put pressure on the Chelmsford defence. The hosts had a number of very strong runners who pushed Chelmsford gradually back towards their own line. However the Chelmsford defence remained solid and after a long period on the back foot, gradually started to stamp their authority over the game.

Chelmsford employed the kicking game well to push into the Harlow 22 and exploited the blind side for the first try with a sneak from the 10 or the opening points. This was followed shortly afterwards by a move that started in the middle of the park to be finished expertly by the Chelmsford no8 in the corner. The next points resulted from continued Chelmsford pressure on the Harlow defence and saw the scrum half sneak in to score a 3rd try for the visitors and saw Chelmsford finish the first half 0-15 up.

The second half saw Chelmsford ring the changes and superb leadership from the Chelmsford 10 saw the boys switch the point of attack to the blindside in a move that saw the centre sprawling over the line for the 4th try. This was followed shortly after by 5th from the Chelmsford blindside who touched down shortly after.

Harlow showed great resilience and heart to score two consolation tries in the closing minutes of the game to bring the score back to 12-25 but it was a solid performance from the Chelmsford boys in both attack and defence.
