U15s rugby this week

The u15s played two matches this Sunday, the first at home to Dagenham RFC and the second away to Bury St Edmunds RFC.

Despite our visitors to Coronation Park only having 10 players available, we adapted the fixture so 2 Chelmsford teams of 10 players each played to quarters of the game. Attacking down the hill in the first quarter, Dagenham were first to score but the advantage was cancelled out shortly after with a well finished try from Chelmsford. The second quarter saw the second Chelmsford team take the field and taking advantage of the slope, scored three tries to race out to a 19-7 lead. The third quarter saw Chelmsford extend the lead to 26-7 before a Chelmsford player on loan to Dagenham (after one of their players left the field injured) scored to make it 26-14. Poor tackling saw Dagenham score another shortly after and the 3rd quarter ended with Dagenham just 7 points behind. In a tense 4th quarter, Chelmsford were first to score but two late tries by Dagenham made it a close finish with the sides separated by conversions. Chelmsford winning 33-29.

Things were much more straightforward in the away game at Bury St Edmunds with Chelmsford scoring two tries from the wing to establish a 0-12 lead at half time. Chelmsford added 3 more points before BSE scored to cut the lead to 7. However, the Chelmsford boys put the game out of reach with a final unconverted try to win the game 5-20.

Thanks to both Dagenham RFC and Bury St Edmunds RFC for the games this weekend. Next weekend sees the u15s travel to Mistley RFC for the first time for a Dev XV fixture while U15s Essex league rugby restarts with Bancroft RFC our visitors (1pm KO).
