Chelmsford’s U15s made the journey over to Rochford for their first league game of the 2023/24 season.
It was a nervy start from Chelmsford who came out second best in the opening few rucks and scrums. However, despite having more of the possession in the early phases, the Chelmsford defence remained solid.
As the nerves evaporated, the Chelmsford boys started to get on the front foot and began to dominate. Eventually the attacking pressure told and after a few phases of solid forwards work, the boys punched through to score the first try. The second try followed shortly after with some great evasive work from the backs resulting in 14 point lead at half time.
Two more tries in the second half saw Chelmsford build a 26-point lead. But with ten minutes of the game remaining, a little complacency crept into the Chelmsford game and the boys lost their shape allowing Rochford to score a couple of consolation tries at the death.
Despite the this it was a strong start to the league season and confidence is high going into the next game on Sunday away to Barking. The u15s will play a second game on Sunday as they travel to Hitchin to play the top team in Hertfordshire.
