Welcome to Chelmsford Under 7's

Welcome to Chelmsford Under 7's.

Tag Rugby is a fun, but competitive, non contact sport aimed at children under the age of 9.
It's designed to develop the basic skills and an understanding of the rules of the senior game.

The under 7 age group is open to all children who are in school year 2.

Training for the under 7’s aims to be a fun and inclusive experience which helps develop core tag rugby skills for all. To augment these skills, and build teamwork, the under 7s will also be playing a number of matches and festivals (see fixture list below). Training is taken by volunteer parents who are CRB checked, with experience in tag rugby training and first aid skills. The training is constantly reviewed and planned, but we always welcome parent interaction and feedback. The focus, as said, is fun and inclusion for all, and we aim to continue fun activities like 'tag in the snow', ‘tag and treat’ and 'train the parents' sessions.

Training is at Coronation Park and starts at 09:30am every Sunday, it lasts for 1 1/2 hours and is situated at the far end of the first team pitch. Parents/carers are requested to remain at the session with their children. The first two sessions are free so you can ensure that tag rugby is right for your child, and then you will be required to join Chelmsford Rugby Club.

Players should wear sensible sports clothing, and either boots or trainers depends on ground condition. A wet weather top, a hat and gloves are also advisable. An appropriate drink in a sports bottle should also be brought for drinks breaks.
The official Chelmsford rugby kit (shirt, shorts & socks) will be needed for matches and these can be purchased from Fenton Sports. For details see www.fentonsports.com.
All other training equipment is provided.

Tag Rugby Basics
--------------------------
Tag rugby is a non-contact, fast-moving game that is suitable for adults or children, and for boys and girls to play together.
Its safe, non-contact nature, combined with the fun and liveliness of the sport, means that tag rugby is now the RFU’s official version of the game for under-7s and under-8s.

Basic Tag Rules;
- No contact.
- No kicking of any kind.
- When a tag is made, the tagger stops running, holds the tag above their head and shouts “TAG!”
- When the ball-carrier is tagged, the ball must be passed to a team mate within three seconds
- Competitive matches should not be more than seven a side
- The use of a either a tag belt or tag shorts replicates a tackle and is clearly seen when an effective tag has been made.
- The ball must be carried in both hands at all times.
- A size 3 rugby ball must be used.

The game has suggested progressions to allow the development of players and introduce more elements of the 15-a-side game. Coaches should use tag rugby to make their players see where space is and encourage evasive running into spaces and not faces.

Tag is a fast-growing version of the game, and the RFU encourages all clubs and playing organisation to look to organise regular tag rugby activity to increase fitness and participation.
