New Head Coach Appointment

New Head Coach Appointment

Rob Evans9 Dec 2022 - 19:26

Chris Green agrees Head Coach role

Last week, Kevin Blackmore regrettably gave notice that he would be stepping down from his role as Director of Rugby to allow him some more time to focus on his family. All at Chelmsford RFC respect the difficult decision that he has made and join me in thanking him for all his efforts since he joined the club some four years ago.

Kev should rightly be proud of his achievements as DOR, having led the 1st XV from London 3 to Regional 2 Anglia with two promotions, and having overseen a huge upturn in form at the Club both on and off the field. Chelmsford RFC is in a much better place now than when Kevin joined the Club, for which we give a huge amount of thanks for the part that he has played in that journey.

As Chairman, I am pleased to announce that Chris Green has this week been appointed Head Coach, and has committed himself to Chelmsford RFC until January 2026. Chris has been influential since joining the club earlier this year as Assistant Coach with the 1st XV, and brings with him a wealth of experience as a coach, having previously been Lead Coach at Seevic College, DOR at Southend RFC, Rochford Hundred RUFC, and Lydney RUFC. Chris is also currently DOR at Writtle University College in his primary employment. Chris will be supported by Dave Hyett, Scott James, and Marcus Bloomberg as assistant coaches, in what will form one of the most experienced coaching set up’s in the very competitive Regional 2 Anglia league.

Speaking this week, Chris added, "Firstly, I’d like to thank Kev Blackmore who has welcomed me into the fold this season and walks away leaving the club in a far better place than when he took over. I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club thus far and the exciting brand we are playing. This for me is only a starting point though and I want us to become a serious force in Essex rugby, in this league, and beyond. I want people's perception of us to change and I’m fully committed to doing that for the next three years and hopefully beyond. I believe we have made huge strides this season already, and with my assistant coaches I aim to make many more during my tenure at the club".

Chris and his team have the full support of the Club's Directors, Management Committee, Members, and Players alike, and we all look forward to seeing the progress the club makes under his direction.
