In April 2025, with the season coming to an end, a club member asked a question to the committee at Chelmsford Rugby Football Club. The question was simple… ‘Does the club have any old rugby jerseys that I can take back to my old club in Africa?’.

Davis Basiime, a regular player for the Blue Boys 2nd XV, had asked the question and the committee set to work. In the ‘lock up’ container old shirts are stored and the perfect set was found. 18 Gilbert branded tops with the sponsor of the Woodlands Group on the front.

Davis’ old club is Rams RFC from Kampala in Uganda and they are fanatical rugby players with a real passion for 7s Rugby. In May the jerseys set off from Coronation Park but little did the club know where they would end up!

Fast forward to 21st June 2025 and the ‘Genocide Memorial International Rugby 7s Tournament’ at the Amahoro Stadium in Rwanda. Rams RFC had travelled 10 hours by bus, to get from Uganda to Rwanda and a place in the final. The Chelmsford RFC rugby shirt had travelled a little further however. A trip by car, plane and bus of over 4,500 miles to be worn by the players of the mighty Rams RFC!

The global sport of rugby showing true friendship and by the way, any Rams RFC lads wanting a game soon – preseason starts on 3th July at 7.15 pm!
