A mixed weekend with a big win against Westcliff but losses against Thurrock and Braintree in the Essex Cup

This weekend saw the u14s play 3 semi-finals in the Essex Waterfall Cup. The 1st game of the day saw the u14 3s make the short journey to Braintree. Despite dominating both possession and territory, the Chelmsford boys could not convert the pressure into points. Conversely, Braintree took advantage of Chelmsford’s mistakes to win the game 12-10. Lots of positives to take from the game as the boys continue to improve.

The 2nd game of the day was an u14 2s home game against a very physical Thurrock team who were clearly fired up for the game. Chelmsford started slowly and spent the first 20 mins of the game camped in their own half. The boys could only be sustain the pressure for so long and Chelmsford went into the break 0-12 down. The rest of the game continued in a similar vein with Chelmsford struggling to get out of their own half. Despite the boys defending valiantly throughout, a lucky break away try at the very end of the game saw Thurrock run out well deserved 0-19 winners.

The final game of the day saw the u14 1s take on Westcliff. Last time out, Westcliff played out of their skins against an off-colour Chelmsford to win the game 15-10. It looked like history might repeat itself when Westcliff intercepted the ball early on and neatly touched down under the posts for the first score. However, Chelmsford, quickly composed themselves and scored the next 7 tries without a Westcliff response, winning the game 47-7.

Lots of positives to take from all the games and as always, plenty to work on. Massive thank you to our team sponsors for coming to watch the boys play today and thank you to you all for your support of the team this season. Next week sees the 2s travel to play Colchester RFC’s B team while the 1s and 3s play a triangular fixture with Southend and Ipswich.
