Chelmsford U14s win the cup for a second year in a row but it was heartbreak for the u13s & u15s as they come away empty handed.

Three Chelmsford youth teams made it to the 2023/24 finals of the Essex County Cup this season which this year was held on Sunday 28th April at Westcliff RFC.

The day started with the Chelmsford u13s who took on the hosts, Westcliff, in the first final of the day. The kids from Westcliff dwarfed the Chelmsford lads who despite putting up a spirited fight, came off second best at the final whistle. Despite being disappointed with the result, the Chelmsford u13s will have learnt a great deal from the experience and will be looking to go one better next season.

The u14s were next to play and took on Eton Manor u14s in the hopes of retaining their title from 2022/23. Chelmsford dominated the game from the start and came away clear winners on the day. The boys will now be hoping to make it three from three next season.

The final Chelmsford team involved were the u15s and hopes were high of retaining the title for a third consecutive year. Despite having most of the possession and territory, dogged defence from Eton Manor meant Chelmsford failed to take their chances. The Chelmsford boys compounded this by allowing Eton Manor to score first (something that was to later prove very costly).

The game was a tight affair which ended a 12-12 draw but with both teams having scored the same number of tries and conversions, the boys from Eton Manor were awarded the win on the first to score rule. Despite being hugely disappointed with the result, the boys have still yet to be defeated on the pitch since qualifying for the cup in their u13 season and will be looking to even the score next season.

With the youth season now completed for another year, all the boys will be looking forward to a well earned rest before the start of pre-season!
