Chelmsford travelled to Thetford with a much changed team from the previous week. The replacement players came in and performed very well and brought about a very comfortable victory. Throughout the game Chelmsford dominated possession with the scrum pushing the Thetford pack all over the pitch. Such was the domination that during the first half, Thetford only entered the Chelmsford half of the pitch on just one occasion. Pressure close to the Thetford line brought about two disallowed tries, one disallowed when the player was ‘held up’ over the line and one disallowed for the player deemed to of had two movements when putting the ball over the line. Chelmsford were lacking a cutting edge in their back line but a nil to nil score at half time left most spectators scratching there heads and provided no signal as to what would happen in the second half.

Within minutes of the start Harry Moseley kicked a well taken penalty and the Chelmsford backs started to relay the ball at pace. From such a well executed move Jack Acorn was released on the left wing to score under the post for a converted try. Chelmsford were now in full control and when Henry Payne rampaged from the back of the scrum Phil Dechamps was at hand to score a well made converted try. Then Tom Acorn scored a brilliant individual try,  when he gathered the ball fifty yards from the try line with the entire Thetford team in front of him. Running at pace, changing direction and throwing the odd dummy he bamboozled the home team to score under the posts.

Thetford suddenly found some form and scored a well taken try. Chelmsford were not finished and a penalty try was awarded when Jobi Fisher was denied a score by a high tackle. Marcus Pottinger the captain for the day then went in for a try before Thetford scored a consolatory try a minute before the end. This was a good win showing the depth of the Chelmsford squad several players, including Jack Shelton, Luke Venn and Henry Payne all made their first appearances for the first team this season having had to bide their time for an opportunity.  Speacial mention needs to be made for Matt Jefferson who  played his debut game for the 1st XV.  The U21’s captain has impressed in training and the games he's played for the 2nd team and of course when leading the U21’s.

Next week will see Chelmsford resume their league games with an away game at East London.
