This was a disappointing performance from the Chelmsford side, although the second half performance was much better than the first. Again, Chelmsford started poorly, from the kick off, the ball was gathered by Brentwood and a missed tackle and quick passing allowed a ’soft’ try between the posts. Chelmsford went straight on the attack and an intercepted pass close to the Brentwood line allowed their centre to sprint unhindered the 90 metres to score another converted try. Further tries were scored from a catch drive from a five metre lineout and a the collection of a kick ahead. The Brentwood flyhalf used his kicking boot to good effect and the Brentwood forwards made ‘in roads’ around the sides of rucks and mauls. As is their style Chelmsford continued to move the ball wherever possible but it was Brentwood who scored before half time from a drive by their forwards. Chelmsford were hindered throughout the game by obtaining three yellow cards hence three players had ten minutes off the field at different stages.

Playing down the slope the game was a much more even affair. A number of near misses occurred for Chelmsford before a battling Lloyd Ellis was stopped a metre from the line and then Will Cooper drove over. Brentwood although pinned back on many occasions, still managed to score three tries in the second half. Chelmsford scoring two. To their credit Chelmsford scored their last try just before the final whistle when Jon Warburton crashed over.
