Chelmsford will be disappointed with their performance on Saturday against a well organised North Walsham side. Chelmsford played up the slope in the fast half and at 5to14 down,at half time, most spectators felt the game was for Chelmsford’s taking in the second half. A lack lustre performance left the Chelmsford coach, Eddie Gooby, stating ‘This performance was not worthy of this group of players . We all let ourselves down today we lacked passion and aggression, it was disappointing’
Chelmsford had a number of changes from the previous game and gave a first outing to Alex Allen in the second row. After seven minutes, North Walsham took the lead when the Walsham’s fly half, who had an excellent game, struck a penalty from thirty-five metres. Chelmsford had their only threatening part of the game during the next fifteen minutes, when clean ball was won and the backs played as a unit. On one such occasion, the ball was passed along the Chelmsford backs and a long pass was delivered to winger Will Ferrier, who sprinted, untouched to score in the corner for an unconverted try. Minutes later Walsham retook the lead from a penalty given for offside.
Another feature of the game, at this stage, was that Chelmsford were getting on the ‘wrong side’ of the referee and giving too many penalties away. Following one such penalty, North Walsham kicked a long distance into touch for a five metre lineout. From this lineout the ball was fed to the centre, burst through at high speed and short range to score an unconverted try. It got worse for Chelmsford when David Hyatt, the Chelmsford Hooker was ‘sin binned’. Another penalty given away by Chelmsford, for not rolling away, provided another opportunity for the Walsham fly half to score.

The second half can be described as error strewn, with many handling mistakes on both sides. The game was mainly played twenty-five metres either side of the halfway line. After fifty-six minutes Chelmsford were awarded a penalty for a high tackle which Hoult struck over from forty metres.
