WHAT A 2ND HALF PERFORMANCE BY THE BLUEBOYS

What a fight back from 34-5 down just losing 34-31 .We have so much to build on from this game Try scorer Marcus Pottinger pictured

Romford & Gidea Park 34 Chelmsford 31
London North East 2
This was a game which Chelmsford should have won in the final minutes after coming back from a 29 point deficit. During the last twenty minutes of the second half they played their best rugby of the current season.
As has been the case on a number of occasions this year Chelmsford were very vulnerable at start of the game. The tackling, initially was poor and too many penalties were given away, which gave Romford easy yardage. Within the first fifteen minutes Chelmsford were three tries down, one try from and outside break around the winger, one from a catch and drive from a lineout and one from missed tackles around a maul.
There were signs of improvement, the front row was becoming dominant, the Chelmsford lineouts were won and pressure was applied to Romford’s scrum. This allowed Chelmsford to gain ground and from a lineout, a good drive allowed Marcus Pollinger to go over for an unconverted try. Romford were straight back at Chelmsford and scored two tries before the end of the half. Half time 27- 5
The game looked out of reach for Chelmsford when Romford scored a try just after the restart. The Chelmsford side then suddenly galvanised themselves, the front row started winning all the scrums and the Chelmsford pack were pushing the Romford pack all over the pitch. It was no surprise that Miles Pitcher scored the next try for Chelmsford, playing his first game of the season, he had an excellent game. Miles Tett, coming off the bench, scored the next, and Phil Stockton playing only his second game this season scored Chelmsford’s fourth try. Cam Arnott kicking three conversions. For one of the first times this the Chelmsford backs were consistently making holes in the oppositions defence and Will Cooper went through to score Chelmsford’s fifth try. Chelmsford had scored 26 unanswered points in under twenty minutes. In the last 5 minutes Chelmsford camped on the Romford line, with Romford giving numerous penalties away. A score did not materialise even though Chelmsford crossed the line and were held up.
Chelmsford should take a great deal of confidence from this result. There is plenty to work at, but with a number of players returning and a general improvement in players performance, their points tally in the league will surely rise.
