CHELMSFORD MAKE IT 7 WINS OUT OF 10 SINCE CHRISTMAS

Chelmsford moved further up the league to sixth place, scoring seven tries, in a resounding victory over Romford. Even with a greatly changed front row Chelmsford’s pack was dominant in the set scrums and managed to take a number of the oppositions lineouts.
The first Chelmsford score came from a lineout where a ‘catch and drive’ allowed James Crouch to burst over for an unconverted try. With twenty minutes gone Will Cooper scored his first of three ‘hat trick’ tries when he charged down a kick to score between the posts. Romford came back into the game when Chelmsford gave away a series of penalties and from a lineout, Romford switched direction to score wide out which was well converted. Will Cooper playing at No8 scored his second from a five meter scrum and then repeated the act five minutes later to score his third. Half time 22=7
Romford turned around going down the slope and for a brief period it looked as they might get back into the game when after five minutes following continuous pressure they scored a good forward try. Chelmsford tackle defence around the scrum has much improved in recent games and it was from these tackles that Romford spilled the ball deep in the Chelmsford half, only for Will Ferrier to pick up and out sprint the defence from 70 meters. By now Chelmsford were in the ascendancy, Marcus Pottinger made an excellent break to feed Tom Day for a try and then Phil Deschamps showing his front row passing skills fed Sid Hoult for the final try.
After the game a delighted Director of Rugby Eddie Gooby said this was a fantastic performance which has gone a long way helping us to stay in London North East 2 .We had to make four changes mainly in the front row and they were outstanding and gave the team the go forward ball we thrive on some of our play today was the best of the season and the score line reflects our dominance at scrum time Before Christmas we were adrift at the bottom of the leagues . The hard work the Coaches and players have put in has been unbelievable and it’s great to see them get the results they all deserve. We still have some work to do and will approach our last two games as if they are both cup finals
