CHELMSFORDS FATE IS IN THERE OWN HANDS

This weeks game against Norwich is like a Cup Final and we need the whole club to get behind the Blueboys

This was a game which Chelmsford should have won. They probably had two thirds of the possession and the Chelmsford front five were totally dominant. All credit to Cooperians who ran the ball from all parts of the field and had pace in all areas of their backline.
Chelmsford played against the wind and up the slope in the first half and took the lead following sustained pressure, when Will Cooper took a quick penalty to barge over from five metres for an unconverted try. Chelmsford had most of the possession and it was a surprise when a cross field kick by Cooperians caught the Chelmsford defence napping for their winger to equalise the scores. With five minutes to half time, with Chelmsford trying to throw the ball around in their own twenty two metres area, a dropped pass allowed the Cooperians centre to run in for a try. With the last move of the first half, Will Cooper scored again following a five meter scrum with again the front five dominant Half Time 10-10
Chelmsford may have thought that with the elements in their favour that the game was won but Cooperians had other ideas. On two occasions in the first ten minutes their speedy backs tore holes from deep into the Chelmsford defence and scored excellent tries to take a 22 -10 lead Chelmsford came into the game when their forwards provided platforms from both lineouts and scrums for Marcus Pottinger to score two unconverted tries. With only two points separating the teams it was Cooperians who scored the final following an excellent kick through and chase.
Chelmsfords afternoon was disappointing, the game could certainly have been won with better kicking and defence alignment but credit to Cooperians who scored some excellent tries.
Director of Rugby Eddie Gooby said after the game you could see the disappointment of the result on all the players faces they knew it’s a game they should have won . Unfortunately for a 10 min period we lost concentration and allowed the game to drift away from us . Our game management in the last 20 mins of the game was poor but the players never gave up and worked really hard to secure two bonus points
The key thing is that the out come of the season is in our hands and we do not have to rely on other results to go our way
Next week will be the last game of the season when Chelmsford take on Norwich at Coronation Park kick off 3pm.
