BlueBoys in dominant form once again

Chelmsford carried on with their winning ways and moved up to second place in the league with a comprehensive win over a large and often uncompromising opposition The game was over at half time as a competitive encounter, as Chelmsford put in their best first half performance of the season, with formidable defensive tackling, excellent scrummaging and some clinical finishing from the Chelmsford backline.

Joel Young put Chelmsford ahead with a well struck penalty early on following a deliberate knock forward. Jamie Ash then got his first try of the three he scored following a kick ahead from fly half Matt Jefferson which Ash pounced on to run through the opponent’s defence. One of the features of the first half was the quality of kicking from Jefferson and Young and the subsequent chase and defence which limited Mavericks options.

Ash was then fed on the blind side by Warren Woodward , which allowed Ash with enough room to go in at the corner for a try, well converted by Young. Young, then following a penalty, kicked astutely for the corner and the subsequent catch and drive allowed Josh Smith to plummet over for a converted try. Chelmsford secured their bonus after half an hour when Ash got the ball and kicked ahead, the ball did bounce ‘kindly’ but Ash was onto it in a flash to grab it, leaving the defence watching, as he sprinted to put the ball down for a converted try. Next it was the turn of debutante, Ollie George, to go through following good handling by the Chelmsford backs for an converted try. Mavericks never gave up and scored two tries, either side of half time. Chelmsford never dominated the lineout, like they dominated the scrums, and from a lineout Mavericks scored following a catch and drive.

Half time Chelmsford 36 Mavericks 7

Mavericks repeated the procedure with a catch and drive immediately after half time in a period, when they spent the first fifteen minutes encamped in the Chelmsford. As the game progressed Chelmsford never reached the levels of control as seen in the first half, however, two tries were scored by the home side. Firstly, by Phil Deschamps, who dived over to score following a number of close passes and finally Jack Acorn went over in the corner, following an astute kick ahead.

Next week Chelmsford travel to Campion, kick off 2.30
