The game was played in a strong gale which blew the length of the pitch, which made handling difficult for both sides. Chelmsford monopolised the set scrums and many of the attacking opportunities originated from their domination. Chelmsford started their scoring following a scrum ‘against the head’. Paul Redford, who had a fine game scoring three tries, picked up the ball and fed the backs allowing Tom Acorn to score an unconverted try. The next try followed a good Chelmsford scrummage close to the line and Warren Woodward scampered over the whitewash. The third try was probably the best of the game when excellent handling by the Chelmsford backs allowed Jamie Ash to out sprint the defence and place the ball behind the posts for Callum McDonald to convert. Barking came back with a try almost immediately, when they burst around the front of a lineout for their No 8 to score. Chelmsford scored their fourth try, gaining their bonus point, after twenty six minutes when a cross field kick was gathered by the ever alert Jack Acorn to score wide out.

The wind was playing a big part in the game at this stage, Chelmsford attacking into the oppositions 22metre area, dropped the ball. The resulting hack forward by Barking got carried by the wind and alluded the Chelmsford defence to allow Barking to score. Chelmsford responded quickly when again they pushed the opposition off the ball for Redford to pick up and run forty metres to score without a hand being placed on him. From the resulting kick off Chelmsford made a number of defensive errors, allowing Barking to score from the base of the scrum.

Playing with the wind, Chelmsford should have taken the game away from Barking from the start of the half. There had to be a large amount of reorganisation as both Henry Page and Matt Jefferson had to leave the pitch due to injury but Barking showed excellent spirit helped by some poor Chelmsford defence to come within four points when again the impressive Barking No 8 picked up from the base to score. For a fifteen minute period. Chelmsford looked weary and uncertain, but the Chelmsford set scrum eventually took control driving forward allowing Redford to have the ball at his feet before plunging on the ball over the line. This steadied Chelmsford and in the last quarter of the match they scored further tries by Redford, Ollie George and Jack Acorn.

Kev Blackmore was in good spirits after the game saying "It was an odd game for us. We looked unplayable for the first 15 minutes, but lost Matt Jefferson and Henry Payne early on and it went a bit ary for us. The start of 2nd half they really came back in to it and got within 3 points. However, once we gained some territory, the forwards turned the screw and we put some distance on them. We then scored a couple of Corkers out wide in last 10 which was a good way to wrap it up." "The lads were a bit frustrated after, but that was an important win for us as we need to keep up the pressure on Harlow, who just nicked a try bonus point away to Old Cooperians this afternoon"
