A ruthless and complete performance sees the BlueBoys run in 17 trys in a thriller at Coronation Park

Chelmsford put on their best display of the season, comprehensively beating Barking showing speed to the break down, early release of the ball and considerable flair outside the scrum. Four players scored hat tricks, Jamie Ash, Tom Acorn, Scott James and Paul Redford. This is certainly the first time this has happened in the club’s history. They also managed to score four tries and gain the try bonus point within eleven minutes of the kick off.

Ash started the scoring after forty seconds when he returned a kick from Barking and ran through the opposition defence from sixty metres, minutes later he scored again when he kicked ahead and gathered the ball to score under the posts. The backs then showed great handling which allowed James to barge his way over. Ryan Ashworth was next to score followed by the dynamic Paul Redford who went over following a driving maul. Callum MacDonald was next on the score sheet following excellent handling by the backs. Ryan Ashworth, following a long kick was next on the score sheet and finally for before half time Tom Acorn showing excellent pace, scored the eighth try of the half.

Half time Chelmsford 44 Barking 0

Chelmsford were unrelenting in the second half, totally dominating both scrum and lineout. Barking never gave up and scored themselves with a good forward drive. But Chelmsford scored a further seven tries, Matt Jefferson converting five of them, scoring fourteen points during the afternoon. The tries were scored Paul Redford (2) Tom Acorn, Scott James, Jamie Ash, Phil Deschamps and Jack Pearce.

There is no doubt that if Chelmsford play with the same intensity and pace they will he a handful for any team in the league. Following Saturdays win Chelmsford have gone into third place in the league.

Director of Rugby, Kev Blackmore, was full of praise after the final whistle:

"We were outstanding for the whole 80mins. It can be hard when you're so dominant to stay focused and stick to your processes, but we played as a team for the whole game and consequently racked up a very big score. Hard to pick out a man of the match, as to a man each player was superb. The forwards dominated set piece and phase play and our talented back line ran riot!"

Next week will see them play their old adversaries, Basildon away, kick off 3pm.
