Chelmsford 2nd XV - 60

Some days you wake up in the morning knowing that all is going to be just fine! The Blueboys B XV were on the coach in anticipation of a day filled with traditional rugby values. West Norfolk RFC were the hosts on the flatlands of East Anglia.

The squad was strong, training had gone well and all was set. The game started with a bang – Chelmsford took an early lead with slick tries from Joe Wood and Matt Jefferson. 12 – 0 to the visitors. Win good ball for the piano players and they would dance a merry tune!

With a front row of Dave Ball, Tom Mowle and Charlie Walubita, the piano pushers were doing just that. Mike Moss and Max Williams at half back partnership were conducting the orchestra and the strings section were starting to play a sweet melody.

Matt Jefferson and Jobi Fisher, on violin and cello, were running hard lines as the backs turned up the volume. The half time whistle blew with Chelmsford having scored three further tries – Mick Moss, Ross Toomey, and Jefferson adding to the score. 29 – 0 at half time.

At this point some of the wind section of the orchestra was tinkered with. Daryl Newport replaced Charlie Walubita and Lee Moore swapped shirts with Stewart Fraser, both having excelled on the trombone. As West Norfolk began to tire, various parts of the orchestra came to life.

The percussion of Luke Williams crashed over for a spectacular try. Ben Kennard and Mike Dawson made jinking runs at second violin and both Joe Wood and Ross Toomey showed little mercy when they ran in their second tries of the game adding a real crescendo to the end of the match. 60 – 0 the final score and smiles all round.

As the Blueboy B XV returned to the dressing room all was going well with the 1st XV fixture and the evening was set to be a ‘cracker’. October West got into full swing. Thank you West Norfolk for hosting, and we look forward to a return fixture in January.
