On a bright and sunny winters day the Development XV (aka the 3rd XV) travelled along the A414/B1019 and to the Essex coast to play Maldon RFC 3rd XV. Having suffered a heavy defeat the previous week, Maldon had done exceptionally well to get a team together and the stage was set for a good old fashioned local derby.
The game started strangely as the referee showed the Chelmsford prop a straight red card after only 10 minutes. The Blueboys needed to draw on their ‘elder statesman’ as Allen, Seeley, Moore and Crouch started to pull the strings and take on some ‘game management’
Chelmsford’s dominance was in the backs as Tristan Olive (x 2), Jobi Fisher and Mike Dawson rolled back the years. Anglia Ruskin student Finn Chisholm also scored and the game started to open up. This eventually saw Chelmsford run out six tries to three winners and a deserved 38-17 victory on the road.
With Basildon 2nd XV beating Southend 4th XV on Saturday, this has led to cracking game in store at Coronation Park on Saturday 3rd February where first plays second in the Essex Merit Table Division 4 East. Come along and support the Blueboys.
