A return to winning ways for the Chelmsford Colts with an incredible team performance against Rochford.

An incredible performance saw the Chiefs side take the win against a Rochford side who we have come second to in the last few years.

A frosty early kick off was the order of the day and the Chiefs side knew they would be up against a robust and large Rochford side who who have managed to bolster their numbers with some high quality players who will surely play up into their senior sides in the future.

The first half was a case of each side testing the other out and looking for any weakness.
As it was with the Chiefs playing up the slope pressed Rochford to make mistakes all over the park and had the better of the half.

At the turn around the scores were level at 0 - 0.

Half time talk was about the fact the Chiefs lads now have the slope advantage and how to play it. Positive language was used how to calm the game and play our structure which the lads took on board.

Unfortunatly by half time the Chiefs side had to reshuffle due to injuries with new players coming off the bench to good effect.

The scrum in the first half creaked a little however the second half was a completely different story. Time and again the Blue Boys shoved the larger Rochford pack clear off the ball.

By now the Blue Boys started their usual ascendancy and playing some good rugby. It wasn't long before Rochford gave away penalties and Noah stepped up with the boot.

The Chiefs were next to score when a pressure and turn overs saw the Chelmsford player dance his way to the tryline. . It was now all Chelmsford and with much pressure were awarded a second penalty to make the score 13-0.

The Chiefs now needed to control the scrappy parts but sadly started giving away too many penalties that gave Rochford field possession and from this right at the end they managed to score and convert as the referee blew for full time.

This was another good display against a good Rochford side and this is the first time our lads have beaten the away team. Scrum second half was a highlight as was the forwards who started to look like rugby players with some strong leg drives carries. The front rows and back row were immense in defence and kept Rochford at bay. It was good to see new players stepping up and being part of the matchday squad . Each and everyone of this squad are part of this win

Thank you to everyone who came to support from the touchline and from the bar . Wishing all those that picked up injuries speedy recoveries. We are now looking like a squad and it isn't just about the lads that played today but about those that showed up for training this morning and for sticking around to support the team - it doesn't go unnoticed.

Next weekend we have a match at Colchester for all.
