Bluebirds fall short in top of the table clash

Despite an ever improving performance, the Bluebirds slipped to their first defeat of the season against a well drilled Wasps FC Amateur Ladies side in this top of the table NC1 South East (North) clash in Acton, West London.

Wasps FC started strongly scoring their first try within 5 minutes followed by a second shortly after, both unconverted, to give the home side an early 10-0 lead. However, the Bluebirds, in their first away game of the season, hit straight back with Lillie Barnett, having switched out to the wing, making an excellent break to touch down for Bluebirds, with Jess Matthews comfortably converting to bring the score back to 10-7. Two more unconverted first half tries by Wasps FC gave them a half time lead of 20-7.

The home side then started the second half strongly, playing to their strengths and utilising their key out and out runner to cross the line twice more. The Bluebirds however continued to fight back and despite having to make changes due to injuries, responded with a second try by Ellie Lawther with a great pick and go, with Jess Matthews again adding the extras, to bring the score back to 34-12. As the game wore on, and despite the Bluebirds scrum continuing to dominate the Wasps FC pack, the home side added 2 late tries, converting one, for a final score of 46-12 to Wasps FC.

The Bluebirds will be looking to bounce back even stronger in their next fixture at home on the 22nd October vs Chesham Ladies - all support greatly appreciated!
