Chelmsford Rugby Football Club

The U8s are a team for girls' and boys who are in Year 3 at school.

We train and play our home matches on Sunday mornings from 9am to 10am and can usually be found on the bottom half of the main pitch in front of the clubhouse.

All Chelmsford RFC sessions are led by DBS checked volunteer coaches, mostly made up mostly from parents from the group, many of whom will go on to coach the children all the way up to adult rugby, and with support from experienced coaches from our older age groups.

New Volunteers are always welcomed. The club provides support and training for all our volunteers and typically the more parents that get involved, the better the experience is for the kids (and for you as parents). No rugby experience is necessary, and it will be one of the most rewarding decisions you ever make! The graduated nature of the RFU Development Pathway means that new elements of the game are added slowly over the course of 5-6 years giving you and the kids the chance to learn as you go!

The focus of U8 rugby is very much on having fun but with the added bonus of playing a season of non-contact tag rugby fixtures against other rugby clubs. Training is focused on developing our kids rugby skills through playing games designed to encourage and develop their agility, balance, coordination and ball handling skills. This is the last season of non-contact rugby before the kids transition to contact rugby – the pitches get bigger and the games get more challenging.

Parents are expected to stay of the duration of all training sessions and matches.

All new players have the opportunity of up to 3 trial sessions before deciding to join the club. Parents are asked to join our Spond Group prior their first session (this is so we have contact details etc in case of emergencies)

When you are ready to join the club, you sent details on how to register with the RFU and purchase your family membership.
